April 6, 1962 ~ September 30, 2019 (age 57)

Tim, 57, passed away after living with the ALS on September 30th, 2019. Tim was born on April 6th, 1962 to John and Betty Lekatz in Aurora, MN. He was the middle child of 3 brothers and graduated from Aurora Hoyt Lakes High in 1980. After graduating, he attended Eveleth Technical Community College as an Auto Technician, while working at the local Pamida retail store in Virginia, MN.  He married his love, Jill Walker in 1986. He parlayed his time at Pamida into many years of management, working at the locations in Little Falls and Vermillion, SD. He was manager when the new store in Two Harbors opened in 1995, and moved his family to live on the North Shore. He came to love the area and the people he met very much. Tim thanks all those he worked with throughout his 30 plus years, for their hard work and dedication.

Tim loved all Minnesota and North Dakota sports, taking pictures on the shore, his dogs Thurston and Ted, riding his ATV, talking shop at the Holiday, and being with family and friends. He was dealt a tough hand the last few years, while his time on earth was cut short by hospital visits, he always made it a point to keep a smile on his face and ask how you were doing.

We thank all who have helped us over the years for their thoughts and care. He will be dearly missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his father, John; father-in-law, George Walker; and brother-in-law, Michael Bianchet.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years Jill, sons Matthew (Christine) Lekatz and Andrew Lekatz; mother Betty Lekatz; brothers, Michael (Deborah) Lekatz and Greg (Renee) Lekatz;  mother-in-law, Nina (Kennedy) Walker; numerous nieces and nephews; and his grandson Dawson Lekatz, whom he loved dearly and will very much miss seeing grow up.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Visitation will be from 9 AM until the 11 Am Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors.  Lunch will follow.

Tim insisted that we recognize the many people that have helped in all different ways make his time as comfortable as possible. We send our most sincere thanks out (in no particular order) to The ALS Association, all of the EMS, PT, Nursing, Doctors and Hospice staff, AHL Class of 1980, Ronnie Feldt, Dana Moore, Jim Widen, Terry and Danny Thewis, THHS Shop Students and Staff, Mike and Carol Anderson, Tom and Renee Burns, Tim Hurd. A very special mention must be made going out to Jill’s sisters: Cathy, Colleen, and Wendy. They have been with us every single step of the way, and Tim’s final months wouldn’t have been nearly as positive without their time and attention. Words cannot express our thanks more.
