Allen Wayne Huset, 74, of Silver Bay, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Throughout his long journey with the illness, he faced every challenge with dignity, resilience and unwavering strength. His determination and spirit inspired all who knew him and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all whose lives he touched.
Al was born on December 11, 1950 to Vernon and Tessie Huset in White Sulphur Springs, Montana. At the age of 5, his family moved to Silver Bay, MN where he became a lifelong resident. Growing up he had a paper route and worked as a carryout at Zup’s grocery store. After graduating from William Kelley HS in 1970, he went to work for Reserve Mining Company. Al worked there for 17 years and was the last employee to leave before Reserve shut down operations permanently in 1986. He would go on to become an OTR truck driver working for Perringer, Halvor Lines and Monson Trucking. In 1991 he returned to mining, working for Cyprus Minerals which later became Northshore Mining. He was a dedicated employee who was known for his strong work ethic and spent his years at Northshore Mining as a highly respected crane and heavy equipment operator until he retired. In retirement, Al and his wife Jackie spent the winter months at their home in Arizona embracing the sunshine and warmer weather after many years of hard work.
Al had a deep appreciation for working with his hands, especially through the art of wood carving and wood burning. He brought life to simple pieces of wood, carving wildlife scenes that reflected both his love of nature and his quiet creativity. He took great joy in giving them as gifts to family and friends. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time at the family cabin. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and served as a past Master, an honor that reflected his commitment to integrity, service and community.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Tessie and brothers Vern and Jim. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Jackie, daughter Kelly (Dan) Nelson, step-daughter Kristin (Jim) Fox, siblings Vera (Larry) Foote, Kevin (Kerry) Huset, Keith Huset, Lisa (Michael) Jacobson, sister-in-law Patrice Akenson, grandchildren Bryanna, Amanda, Payton, Andrew, Connor, great grandchild Callahan and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Ecumen hospice and the staff at Carefree Assisted Living for their compassionate care during Al’s final days.
A Gathering of family and friends will be held from 1-3 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors.
