Two Harbors

Allen E. Krause, 96, of Two Harbors, died May 20, 2025 with his loving wife of 74 years by his side.

He was born on March 17, 1929 to Herbert and Alma (Ruschmeyer) Krause in Duluth. Allen grew up and attended schools in Duluth, spending his summers on his grandparents’ farm in Aitkin. He went on to graduate from Central High School in 1947 before attending and graduating from UMD with a bachelor’s degree in education. After teaching at Lincoln High School in Floodwood from 1951-1953, he moved to Two Harbors where he spent 33 years, from 1953-1986, as a math and science teacher at Two Harbors High School.

Gardening, listening to, singing, and playing music were his main hobbies later in life but in his younger years Allen also enjoyed hunting, fishing, curling, skiing, and playing in the orchestra and with a string quartet.

Allen was a member of Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church (formerly Hope Lutheran), Thrivent # 31313, HarborMates, and AARP.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert and Raymond; and a daughter, Diane Marie.

Allen is survived by his wife, Jane; daughters Mary (Paul) Solberg, Nancy (Bob) Jenkins, Patty (Will) Hagglund, and Melissa (Mike) Oldsberg; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

A very heartfelt thank you to the Moments Hospice team for the special, loving care they gave to Allen.

Thank you also to the staff at Open Arms Senior Living for helping make Allen’s last days more comfortable and enjoyable.
