Aloise Lupa

Aloise “Al” Lupa, 91, of Two Harbors, died Sunday September 27, 2015 at Ecumen Scenic Shores.

He was born April 14, 1924 to Aloise and Theresa Lupa in Wausau, Wisconsin.  Al loved hunting, fishing, skiing, and spending time with his dogs.  He was an avid skier from a very young age and continued the sport into his eighties.  Al won many tournaments in Wisconsin for ski jumping.

He attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire graduating in 1947 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Forestry, Botany, and Geography.  He then attended Yale University School of Forestry in New Haven, Connecticut graduating in 1949 with a Master of Forestry degree in Forest Management.  Al served in the US Navy during World War II, as an executive officer of an LST in the South Pacific, and exited the service at the end of the war. He married Mary Estelle on November 26, 1949.

Al worked all over the United States as a forester, sawmill superintendent, sawmill manager, and lumber company president.  Al and Mary lived in Wisconsin, Arkansas, West Virginia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Minnesota.  In the 1970s Al worked for the Red Lake Indian Reservation in Minnesota, as manager of the tribe’s sawmill.  Al’s last position was as president of JC Campbell Company near Two Harbors.  Al retired in 1986, and the couple set down roots in Two Harbors on the shore of Lake Superior.

Al is preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary; and sister, Carol Sautter.

He is survived by several nieces, nephews, and their families; and close friends, Keith Larson and Ann Thomas.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial Friday October 2, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors.  Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery.
