ANTON “Tony” CICAK

Tony Cicak, 85, of Schroeder, died Monday April 11, 2016 in Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center.

He was born on June 29, 1929 to Anton and Mary (Cervenka) Cicak in Chicago, Il.  Tony grew up and attended schools in Phillips, WI before serving in the US Army during the Korean War.  He was awarded a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, and the Korean Army Medal.  Tony returned to Phillips where he was employed as a logger.  In 1954 on his way to look for work on the Iron Range, he offered a ride to someone needing to go up the North Shore where he found work on the construction of Taconite Harbor in Schroeder.  Tony later worked at the plant until retiring in 1993.

In his spare time, Tony built a sailboat from the ground up based on original drawings, operated a small sawmill, and enjoyed diving the shipwrecks of Lake Superior.  Tony was also a locally well-known gunsmith.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maryanne.

He is survived by his wife, Deonn; daughter, Karla; mother-in-law, Gen Follingstad; brothers-in-law, Mark and Bryan Follingstad; and nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the 1 PM service on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Lutsen Lutheran Church.  Burial will be in Schroeder Cemetery.
