Arnold Overby

Arnold G. Overby, 80, of Beaver Bay, died Monday June 8, 2015 at home with his family at his side.

He was born June 9, 1934 in Two Harbors to Otto and Gladys (Lind) Overby, grew up in Castle Danger, and graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1952.  After serving in the U. S. Army, he entered college, earning his Bachelor’s Degree from UMD in 1964 and his Master Degree from Wisconsin State University-Superior in 1971.  He taught school for Lake Superior School District in Silver Bay and Two Harbors for 30 years, retiring in 1994.

Arnold was a charter member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Castle Danger and also a member of Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay.  He was a founding member and long-time president of the Save Lake Superior Association, and was active in the Lake County DFL for many years. He enjoyed in-line skating, world traveling, and wintering in Mesa, Arizona where he worked in a lapidary shop.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marlene; a son, Daniel of Castle Danger; a daughter, Anne (John) Gronski of Superior; grandsons, Gunnar and Jarrett Gronski; and a sister, Harriet Kempffer of Two Harbors.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Castle Danger, Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay, Save Lake Superior Association, or the donor’s choice.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM memorial service on Saturday June 13, 2015 at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay.
