Caroline Welk

Caroline S. Welk, 88, of Two Harbors, died Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Sunrise Home.

She was born January 2, 1922 to Jacob and Sophie (Mulhbursch) Petrich in Eveleth. She grew up in Eveleth, moved to Two Harbors in 1941, and worked as an engine wipe for the DM&IR Railroad. She married Fred Welk in 1945 and he preceded her in death. Caroline worked as a dishwasher at Two Harbors High School from 1951 to 1969. She married Leo Welk in 1965 and he died in 1981. She was a member of the Women of the Moose. Caroline was an active volunteer helping out such programs as Meals on Wheels, the Two Harbors Food Shelf, and Neighbor to Neighbor.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother Jack Petrich, and sisters, Marion, and Helen.

She is survived by daughters - Kathy (Charles) Swanstrom of Duluth, Susie Stupca of Two Harbors, and Marge (Karl) Symons of Two Harbors; sisters - Betty Fortman and Dolly Scott both of Eveleth; sister-in-law, Mitzi Petrich of South Carolina, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held 1 PM Thursday September 9, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors.
