Two Harbors

Elizabeth Samuell of Two Harbors, known to her family and friends as Betty, passed peacefully in her sleep on August 26th at her favorite place, her cabin on Christianson Lake.  Betty was surrounded by her loving family who had the honor of caring for her in the last few months during her hospice.

Betty was born in Aitkin, Minnesota on October 3, 1937 to Arthur and Audrey Lund.  She was raised in Hay Point and attended school in Hill City, Minnesota.  Betty married the love of her life, James (Jim) Samuell, on June 22, 1957. Betty spent her entire life raising children. She was the oldest daughter in a family of ten children and began raising children at an early age.  Several of her siblings have recounted crying for Betty on their first day of school as she walked down the hall of the school after dropping them off with their teachers. Betty then raised her own brood of four children and before her last child had graduated from high school, she began caring for children of Two Harbors in her daycare during the 70’s 80’s and 90’s. Betty talked fondly of hearing about and seeing the children of her daycare through the years in her travels around Two Harbors. During her retirement she then had the pleasure of helping to raise three of her grandchildren with the youngest of her grandchildren currently in school in Two Harbors.  Betty also found time in her retirement to ride her pontoon boat around Christianson Lake chasing northerns.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her sister, Margaret (Kathy) Gregory, and her brother, Robert Lund.

Betty is survived by her children, James Samuell, Jr. of Two Harbors, John (Laura) Samuell of Lindstrom, Jean Samuell of Duluth, and Jo Ann (Mark) Boulanger of Two Harbors; grandchildren, James (Stephanie) Samuell, Jaclyn (John) Samuell, Megan (Madisson) Samuell, Mara Boulanger, Jamee Samuell, and Jacob Samuell; two great grandchildren, Parker and Finnlae Samuell; her siblings, Ronald (Jane) Lund, James (Judy) Lund, Bill (Patty) Lund, Charles (Kathy) Lund, Pat Hansen, Mary (Bill) Feist, and Helen Held.

In honoring Betty’s wishes, there will be a private Celebration of Life.
