Eugene Gustafson

July 4, 1929 — November 20, 2016

Eugene Walter Gustafson, 87, died at home Sunday November 20th, 2016 surrounded by his family.  He was born July 4, 1929 at home to Esther and Gust Gustafson.

He graduated from Two Harbors High School, playing baseball and basketball for the Agates.  He was offered a chance to play professional baseball but turned it down.  He went on to Dunwoody Institute and became an electrician.

Eugene met Gwenne Lindgren of Two Harbors at a July 4th dance at the Park Pavilion, his 23rd birthday.  They were married 2 years later for over 62 years and had 4 children.

Eugene worked as an electrician for the DM&IR and then spent 30 years at Reserve Mining.

He discovered Sun City West, AZ in his eighties, marveling that he hadn’t discovered the Snow Bird life earlier.  He enjoyed the warmth and his Two Harbors friends who wintered in the South.

He was a skilled woodworker and fixer of all things.  He loved the cabin, gardening, and beautiful flowers.  Most of all, he loved his family.

He is survived by his  wife Gwenne; daughters, Gayle (Jon) Koop, Judy (Geoffrey) Bianchi, Sandy (Bob) Wuorio, and son Gary Gustafson; grandchildren, Andrea Koop, Bryan (Sara) Koop, Tony Koop, Amanda Koop, Eric Gustafson, Kjera Gustafson, Matthew Gustafson, Alex Bianchi, Allise (Josh) Taran, and Joel Wuorio; great-grandchildren, Steven Koop, Ava Koop who reminded us that Heaven is our Home, and Emmaline Koop; sisters, Helen Olsvik, Violet Smalley, and Marion Johnson.

Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the 1 PM Memorial Service Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
