Frank Johnson, 80, of Two Harbors, died Saturday, May 5, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth MN, surrounded by his family.

Frank was born March 17, 1938 to Milford and Myrtle (Sivertson) Johnson in Duluth MN. Frank grew up in Two Harbors MN and on Isle Royale, where his family were commercial fisherman. Frank also spent many years fishing himself, before obtaining his Captain’s license when he started working as a Tug Captain. The bulk of his career was spent working for first Zenith Dredge and then Marine Tech, when he also became a member of operating engineers local 49.  His reputation as a Captain was known all over the Great Lakes as he worked throughout. He also spent some time delivering boats all around the United States. Frank’s love for the lake and his knowledge of boats  also made him Captain on the Voyager II,  Wenonah, and for the Vista Fleet.

Not only was Frank known for his vast knowledge as a captain, he was also known to have a cup of coffee in his hand and a good story to tell. His motto was “Do something nice for someone every day.” Frank was a very active member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and Moose Legion. His pride was his family. He loved watching his grand kids grow. He was a hard working man who did whatever he had to care for his family. He enjoyed 50 years with the love of his life Sue Johnson, as most know, they have known each other their whole lives.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Milford and Myrtle Johnson; brothers, Art Johnson, Robert Johnson and Norman Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Johnson; his daughters, Gena Paige, Lezlie and Scott Halladay; and his son, Wade and Jamie Johnson; brothers, Milford and Kenneth (Cynthia) Johnson and sister, Mary (Ray) Owens; along with 10 grandchildren; and his loved extended family.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Memorial Service Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors.  Following the church service, there will be a Service of Tribute ceremony to be held at the Moose Lodge where coffee and fellowship will follow.
