Fred [Buzz] Leslie Anderson, formerly of Two Harbors, MN died Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Keystone Bluffs Assisted Living in Duluth. Fred was born August 19, 1938 to Fred and Lilly (Wallin) Anderson near Nisswa, MN where he grew up with his six siblings (seven children in total with 6 living into adulthood) in a two-bedroom house in the woods with a woodstove for heat and a water pump in the sink. Fred met Marilyn Paycer of Brainerd and the two married on March 18, 1961, at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa, MN. Even with his humble beginnings, Fred graduated from St Cloud State in 1963 with a master’s degree in education. Fred was also a veteran serving six years with the army reserve during this time. Fred started his career teaching in Lynd, MN where he also coached a nine-man football team and led them all the way to the state championship. After a couple of years, Fred and Marilyn moved to Atwater, MN where Fred became the high school counselor and spent the rest of his 32-year career. Fred was a pillar of the Atwater community where he was president of multiple organizations including the MN State Counselor’s Association, Diamond Lake Association, the Masonic Lodge as well as taking leadership roles at the Atwater Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Fred and Marilyn were happy to have three children (Mark, Gregg, and Angela) which they raised in Atwater. When he wasn’t teaching in the summer, Fred worked as a carpenter building swimming pools, helping people shingle their homes, or helping people build anything they needed. When he wasn’t working you would find him outdoors hunting and fishing or working on the taxidermy of what he caught hunting and fishing. Fred survived a heart attack and decided it was time for him to retire. After Fred retired, he put his carpenter skills to work and built a house just outside of Two Harbors, MN for he and Marilyn to be closer to their four grandchildren. But they decided that they didn’t like the winters in Two Harbors and headed south to winter in Donna, Texas for about 16 years. After a knee surgery, Fred suffered a stroke which slowed him down and they decided that winters in Two Harbors were not that bad after all. As they aged into their 80’s, Fred and Marilyn moved into an Assisted Living in Duluth to let someone else do the cooking and cleaning -where they resided up to Fred’s death.
Fred was preceded in death by his immediate family: Father: Fred Anderson. Mother: Lily (Wallin) Anderson. Siblings: Irene Hall, Doris Fauth, Gladys Schmidt, Violet Jean [Jeanie] Sherwood, Clifford Anderson [baby], Mary Ellen Bolton, and Carl Anderson.
Fred is survived by:
