Gail Gustafson

March 3, 1940 — June 4, 2017

Gail Gustafson, 77, of Silver Bay, died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors.

She was born March 3, 1940 to Andrew and Hazel (Eklund) Osterheim in Aitkin, but grew up and graduated high school in Superior Wisconsin.  Gail married Berwyn Martineau in 1960 and they moved to Silver Bay in 1966.  She raised her 5 children and was self-employed as a taxi owner/operator of “Ship to Shore” cab service.  Gail married David Gustafson in 1978 and they lived first in Silver Bay, and then Minneapolis from 1987 until returning to Silver Bay in 1997.

Gail enjoyed dancing, gardening, reading, painting, traveling, and visiting her children, grandchildren, and friends.

She was a member of the United Protestant Church and was active there as a member of the Diaconate.

Gail was preceded in death by parents, her step-mother, Hazel; and brother, Joe Osterheim.

She is survived by her husband, David; children, Laurie Martineau of Thief River Falls, William and James (Tamara) Martineau of Two Harbors, Lee Martineau of Silver Bay, and Shannon (James) Jesme of Thief River Falls; 6 grandchildren; a brother, Bill Osterheim of Springfield, TX; and David’s children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay.  Burial will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior.
