Gordon Klein

Gordon C. Klein, 93, Two Harbors, died Thursday, September 10, 2026 at the Benedictine Health Center.

Gordy was born to Clarence and Hazel (Olson) Klein, September 9, 1933 in Ashland, Wisconsin, grew up in Sanborn, Wisconsin and graduated from Drummond High School in 1951. Gordy and Janice Engen married in 1953. After graduating from Northland College in Ashland in 1955, and earning his Master’s Degree from the University of North Dakota-Grand Forks in 1962, he was employed as a High School Science Teacher and coach in Milaca, MN, and Physical Education teacher, coach, and athletic director in Mellen, WI. He moved to the North Shore and was employed by Lake Superior School District first in Silver Bay as a science teacher, coach, and counselor, and in Two Harbors from 1966, as Assistant Principal and later Principal of Two Harbors High School until retiring in 1991. Gordy and Jan also operated a family farm for many years, which brought him great joy.

Gordy was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Lake County HRA Board, Farm Service Agency, Rotary, Lions, Two Harbors Curling Club, professional education associations, and chairman of the Star City Commission.

He enjoyed visiting with his farming friends, training horses, giving sleigh rides, teaching curling, mentoring students, and time with family - especially his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 70 years, Jan; a brother, Myron Klein; a sister, Shirley Bowers and her husband, Maytor, his life-long friend.

Gordy is survived by a son, Lee; daughters, Kay (Greg) Libby and Kim (Chris) Burke; grandchildren, Steven (Brittany) Libby, Stephanie (Mike) Granke, Hallie Klein (Mitchell Johnson), Aria Lucarelli, Matthew Klein, and Ali Burke; great-grandchildren, Roy and Mason Granke.

Gordy’s family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Barross Cottage, Marywood-Bendictine Living Community, and Essentia Hospice for the compassionate care they provided in Gordy’s last few years.
