Janice Marie Smith

Janice Marie (Seglem) Smith passed away July 11, 2025 at Diamond Willow Memory Care.

Jan was born October 7, 1942 to Carl and Bernice Seglem in Grand Marais, MN. She married her loving husband Lawrence Smith in 1961, they later moved to Duluth and later to Clover Valley, Island Lake, and back to Clover Valley where she lived out her life. Jan retired as secretary from the UMD Art Department.

She was an avid downhill skier, with many trips out West with Larry and friends, she was an amazing seamstress, quilter with many other hobbies, she always had a craft project or hobby in the works.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Bernice.

Jan is survived by her devoted husband, Larry Smith; her children Ryan (Cindy) Smith and Laurie (Neal) Myrdal; brother, David (Carol) Seglem; sister, Judy Lebovsky; grandchildren, Lauren Smith, Bradley (Jen Malmberg) Myrdal, Cole (Heather Higgs) Myrdal, Lee (Iris) Myrdal, and Lacey (Justin Johnson) Myrdal; and great-grandchildren, Jessalan, Reece, Ace, and Wesley.

There will be a family gathering at a later date.
