JOHN M. BECK

John Milton Beck, 75, of Two Harbors passed away on Monday, September 6, 2010 in Yuma, Arizona after a long illness with his family and friends at his side.

John was born March 29, 1935 in Brimson, to Verner and Ina Beck. He attended school in Two Harbors and started working for the D.M. & I.R. Railroad and various gas stations in his teens to help support the family after his father passed away. He became a Truck Driver, and Mechanic for John Grew Trucking and moved on to be a Master Mechanic at Duluth Ready Mix where he worked for 27 years. He then went to work for Lake County Highway Department as a Master Mechanic, where he worked until his retirement in 1997. During his retirement John drove truck over the road part time for Halvor Lines, making many trips between Superior, Wisconsin and Thunder Bay, Ontario, which he really enjoyed . John enjoyed camping, fishing, snowmobiling, spending time with his grandchildren and traveling the country in his Diesel Truck and 5th wheel with his beloved wife, Carla. During his life John was active in numerous organizations including; Clifton Fire Department, Voyagers Snowmobile Club, International Union of Operating Engineers and Governor and life time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brother Melvin and Sister Joyce.

He is survived by his sister, Vivian (Vern) Bolen, his wife of 55 years Carla, his son Ron (Cheryl) of Omaha. Nebraska, daughter Kim Turnquist of Two Harbors and 7 grandchildren Chase, Drew, Zack Turnquist, Amber (Matt) Johnson, Lance, Taylor and Garrett Beck and 2 great grandchildren Elias Turnquist and Jade Johnson, sister-in-law, Sandi (Melvin) Beck, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Dr. Knofel (Buddy) Staton.

Visitation begins at 10 A.M. before the 11 A.M. service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Two Harbors, Minnesota Thursday, September 16, 2010.
