Joseph Zastera

October 11, 1926 — June 10, 2010

Joseph F. Zastera Jr., 83, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the Sunrise Home in Two Harbors, MN.

He was born in Jackson, Mississippi on Oct. 11, 1926 to Joseph F. and Ethel (Cardwell) Zastera. He grew up in Louisville, Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska, College of Pharmacy in 1949. He served in the Army during WWII from 1944-1946. He also served in the Korean Conflict from 1950-1952.

Joe married Ann Inman on June 18th, 1950, in Louisville, NE. After he returned from the Army in 1952, he worked at the Louisville Pharmacy until 1956. At that time, Joe and Ann moved to Two Harbors, MN where they purchased Falk's Pharmacy, which they owned until 1988. Joe was a member of many local committees, commissions, and military organizations. He was a member of the MN Board of Pharmacy for 12 years, and was State President twice. He was a member of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy for 10 years and was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in 1994.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Trudy and Dave Morgenstern, brother Tom Zastera, and brothers-in-law Harold Koop and Dr. Fred Rutt.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; daughter Jody Zastera of Two Harbors, MN; son Frank (Julie) Zastera of Superior, WI; daughter Carolyn Zastera of Northfield, MN; grandson Jason Zastera of Cloquet, MN; and granddaughter Liita (Noah) Gagnon of Cloquet, MN; two sisters, Audrey Koop of Two Harbors, MN, Josephine Rutt of Broomfield, CO. and sister-in-law, Dorothy Zastera of Corona, CA; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors, MN from 4-6 pm on Sunday, June 13, 2010. Funeral Services will be at the United Church in Two Harbors on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 1 pm with visitation beginning at 12 noon prior to services.
