An Obituary for Larry James Sandretsky, Sr., in a Poem as He Would Want It
There are some who pass through quietly,
Like a whisper or a breeze,
But Larry wasn’t made for quiet,
He preferred a party, a joke, a tease.
With calloused hands and a guitar in tow,
He played the songs he loved so true,
His Woodtick song would steal the show,
And strangers were now friends he knew.
Miles and miles of open road,
The hum of tires his song,
From diesel wheels to Harley rides,
It’s where he always belonged.
But at home he built his greatest pride,
A legacy, a crew, a clan
With his golden Marcie by his side,
He loved his kids (and greats and grands)
Now reunited with those gone before,
His beloved mother and brother Slim,
And all his friends who paved the way,
Just waiting to party with him again.
So raise a glass and dry your tears
He’d want it that way,
Play a song and share some laughter,
And celebrate another day.
For somewhere past the horizon now,
Where the long roads never end,
Larry’s riding, laughing, playing on
Forever your fun-loving brother and friend.
