Lawrence R. Smith

Lawrence “Larry” Smith, age 89, passed away peacefully August 15, 2025.

He was born in Grand Marais, MN to Earl and Myrtle (Linnell) Smith. He married the love of his life Janice Seglem in 1961.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who cherished his family above all else. He and Jan built a life of love, laughter, and lasting memories with their many hobbies of downhill skiing, horses, gardening, and fishing.

Larry retired from U S West in 1996 after many dedicated years of service. He proudly served his country in the U S Army and carried with him a strong sense of duty, integrity and perseverance.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jan; his brothers, Gerald, Ronald, Dean and Dwight; and his sister, Melva Schulte.

He is survived by his children Ryan (Cindy) Smith and Laurie (Neal) Myrdal; grandchildren, Lauren Smith, Bradley Myrdal, Cole Myrdal, Lee (Iris) Myrdal, and Lacey Myrdal; and great-grandchildren, Jessalan, Reece, Ace, and Wesley.

He will always be remembered for the love he had for his family, and the joy he brought to those around him.
