LeRoger J Lind

We are saddened to announce that our Dad, Lee Lind, 81, of Castle Danger, MN passed away of Alzheimer’s Disease on October 30, 2023. 

Lee was born in Castle Danger in 1942 to Roy and Pearl (Hill) Lind. He was the oldest of ten children and spent time as a child helping his family with both their fishing business and the small resort his grandparents ran along the North Shore of Lake Superior (the Tom Lind Cabins). Lee attended Two Harbors High School where he was a star basketball and football player, as well as a top student. Through his athletic and scholastic achievements, he won a scholarship to attend Harvard University where he earned a degree in Engineering in 1964. 

Lee’s first job after graduating was as an engineer at Westinghouse Corp in Philadelphia, PA. This is also where he had his children, Eric and Kristine, with his ex-wife Jan (Olson) Swart. The family then moved to Cincinnati, OH for a few years, before relocating back to Minnesota to the Minneapolis area. Lee spent the rest of his career designing generators at Graco, Electric Machinery, Onan and then retired from Cummins Engines. He always thought himself lucky that he excelled at a career that he also enjoyed.

After Lee retired, he moved back to Castle Danger to the house his uncle built on the most beautiful sand beach on Lake Superior. His love for the Lake and his hometown led to his involvement and Presidency of the Save Lake Superior Association, where he used his technical knowledge to fight against pollution and ensure the Lake continues to be the greatest of the Great Lakes for generations to come. 

Lee’s last few years were spent in Two Harbors, where he battled dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. We can’t thank the staff at Agate Bay Assisted Living in Two Harbors enough for their warm and kind care of Lee over the last few years. We also would like to extend immense thanks to Ecumen Hospice for their loving guidance through the last stages of our Dad’s life. 

LeRoger is survived by his son Eric (Deanna), his daughter Kristine (Eric Poulson), granddaughter Leah Lind, grandson Connor Poulson, brother Warren (Maxene) Lind, brother Ronald Lind, sister Joann Granger, sister Donna Nelson, sister Diane Lind, brother Mike Lind, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. His family was his greatest joy.  

There will be a celebration of life for LeRoger at a later date. Any remembrances in his name could be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Save Lake Superior Association.
