Mary Hagen

September 19, 1928 — April 13, 2015

Mary Mealey Hagen, 86, of Two Harbors, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015. She was born on September 19, 1928 in Duluth, Minnesota. She attended a one-room school house in Wales, Minnesota until going to Two Harbors High School, where she graduated in 1946. She worked for the Forestry Service in Grand Marais where she met Kenneth Hagen and they were married on November 1 , 1947. They made their home in the Two Harbors area and raised six children. Mary was a lifelong member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors.  She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served on the Lake Superior School District school board for 12 years.

Mary did many volunteer activities throughout her life and had a special passion for supporting the American Legion and our veterans, including her volunteer work at the Minnesota Veterans Home, the Legion Auxiliary poppy drive, doing income taxes, and much more.

Mary was an avid genealogist and leaves behind the gift of research and documentation of our family tree to her family for generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenny, her parents William and Margaret (Carrell) Mealey, her brothers, John, Jim and Bill Mealey, and her son-in-law, Steve Ruberg.

She is survived by her six children Bob (Donna) Hagen of Warwick, Rhode Island, Joanne Schwecke of Richfield, Minnesota, David (Elaine) Hagen of Two Harbors, Kathy Ruberg of Two Harbors, Dennis Hagen of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Steve (Pam) Hagen of Cloquet; Brothers, Dave and Dan Mealey; sister, Jane Holm; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Mealey; She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren; Lori, Amy, Rob, Kristin, Toni, Amanda, Julie, Sarah, Eric, Matt, Noah, Wade, Blake and Kaiya. She leaves a continued legacy of 17 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial Thursday April 16, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors.  Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
