Mildred E. Goette, 93, of Finland, died Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Waterview Shores in Two Harbors, after a brief stay there.
She was born on September 24, 1930, to Edward and Tyyne (Tikkanen) Shaffer in Two Harbors and was a life-long resident of Finland. Graduating from high school in Two Harbors in 1948, she married Clarence Goette on April 9, 1949, and was a homemaker through the years in a busy household of five children.
Millie was an active member of the former Zion Lutheran Church, a volunteer at the Lake View Nursing Home, and PTA member during her children’s school years.
She enjoyed playing cards, and hunting, fishing and camping with her family. She knit many pair of socks, and loved crocheting blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; a daughter, Jayne Conway; and grandson, Coal Goette.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Charlene) Goette, Richard (Shawn) Goette, Patti (Ron) Kenowski, and Jon (Wendy) Goette; son-in-law, Greg Conway; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and siblings, Edward Shaffer, Elwood “Butch” (Betty) Shaffer, Doug (Laurie) Shaffer, and Bev (Cindy Galbraith) Nikolai.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 on Saturday May 4, 2024 at Baptism River Community Church, followed by lunch at 1 PM at the Clair Nelson Center.
