Orville Knaffla, 94, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026. Born in Crookston, Minnesota on April 28, 1932 to Emil and Olga (Smith) Knaffla, Orville lived a life defined by quiet strength, hard work, and a deep love for his family. After spending time in Alvwood, Orville eventually found his true home in Murphy City. He was a husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, brother, friend, and like a second father to many.
Orville was a man who knew the value of hard work. He had a sharp mind and a quick wit, even going to college later in life where he got a rating in powerplants, airframes, and helicopters. He is remembered by many for his years at Reserve Mining, and he also worked construction with his brother Marvin and worked security with Midwest Patrol. He lived life to the fullest. He was a rockhound with a passion for Agates and Thomsonite. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends on Lake Superior, and in his later years he traveled to Arizona to camp, pan for gold, and meet up with the Reed family and other friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis (Kroeger), daughter Debbie, second wife Rachel (Bolton), brothers Marvin, Paul and Leslie, and sisters Ruby Friend, Grace Torkelson, June Van Hale, and Shirley Bowes.
He is survived by his children Dale (Janey), Marlys (George), Ricky, Julie Rusco (Harvey), Mark, Dawn Bosiacki (Richie), Kyle (Lory) and Sheila, 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, his sisters Carol Morin and Marie Zaren, sister-in-laws Faye, Joyce, and Alma. He leaves behind a legacy of great stories, impactful work, and a deep love for the North Shore. He was loved dearly and will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
