Paul W. Schmitz, 81, Two Harbors, died on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital, due to complications of a stroke.
Paul was born August 27, 1939 to Alex and Angela (Blesener) Schmitz in Rice County, Minnesota and grew up on the family farm near Dundas. After graduating from Bethlehem Academy in Faribault, he operated a service station for a short time. Moving to Two Harbors in 1970, Paul was employed as a welder for Abex Corp, Husky Hydraulics, and Hahn Machinery. He also enjoyed logging with his partners, Bruce Pierce and Ron Studier, Sr. for several years. After “retiring” he was a delivery driver for Essentia Pharmacy for several years.
He always enjoyed work, RV travel, woodworking, tinkering, and helping friends and neighbors with projects. In Paul’s eyes there was no such thing as a stranger.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Schmitz; brothers-in-law, Harley Peterson, and Ronnie Burke; and a grandson, Scott Suomi.
He is survived by his sons and daughters, Curtis (Susan) Schmitz, Rochelle “Annie” (Jeff) Morton, Ashlee “Nae” Schmitz, and Scott (Chrissy) Schmitz, and their mother, Sharie Schmitz; grandchildren, Heather and Christie Morton, Brandan and Zack Schmitz; sisters, Marcella Burke, Sister Myrtle Schmitz, and Irene Peterson; sister-in-law, Lorna Schmitz; and many nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held.
