Warren Symons

April 4, 1925 — April 14, 2016

Warren Symons, 91, Two Harbors, died Thursday April 14, 2016 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay.

He was born on April 4, 1925 to Harry and Emma (Aske) Symons in Two Harbors where he was a lifelong resident. During World War II he entered the U. S. Navy, completed diesel engine school and served as a Motor Machinist’s Mate.  Returning from the war, he stopped in Rice Lake, WI where he met Percy and they were married April 22, 1946.  Returning to Two Harbors, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator and diesel mechanic with Operating Engineers Local Order #49, and later went to work for the D. M. & I. R. Railroad as an engineer for many years.

Warren was a member of Fortitude Lodge of the Masons, Scottish Rite, Aad Temple of the Shrine, the American Legion, Loyal Order of Moose, Lions, Sons of Norway, Lake County Historical Society, and the Knife River Valley Club. He enjoyed restoring old heavy equipment with his sons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Priscilla “Percy”; son-in-law Al Quaas; and a great-grandson, Wesley Warren Birkland.

Warren is survived by four sons, Karl (Marge), John (Linda), Mark, and Eddy (Judy); two daughters; Mary Beth Quaas and Judy Anderson, all of Two Harbors; 58 grand and great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Martinetti; sister-in-law, Georgianna (Bobby) Lorntson; and lifelong friend, Al Thorngren.

Warren’s family would like to thank the staff at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home and the Lake County Veteran’s Service Officer, Vince Sando, for their care for Warren for the past several years.

Visitation will be from 3 PM until 5 PM Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Cavallin Funeral Home.  Services will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 11 AM at the Masonic Lodge in Two Harbors.  Burial with military honors will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
