Werner Talus, of Silver Bay, died Sunday January 11, 2026 just three days before his 101st birthday.
Werner was born January 14, 1925 to John and Katherine (Pilto) Talus in Palmer, Michigan, where he grew up and attended school. He married Betty Ruona in 1950 and they livd in Negaunee, Michigan until moving to Silver Bay in 1968. Werner was employed in research and development at Reserve Mining Company until retiring in 1984. During retirement, he worked for several years at Tettagouche State Park.
Werner was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church. A life-long sports enthusiast, both as a participant and watching, he continued to enjoy golf well into retirement, along with cribbage.
Werner was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; brothers and sisters; and a great-grandson, Jakob Talus.
He is survived by his sons, Greg (Sue) Talus of Silver Bay, Jeff (Valerie) Talus of Colorado Springs, and David (June) Talus of Silver Bay; a step-son, Terry Meacham of Santa Fe, NM; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and long-time companion, Yvonne Mensing and her family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Care Free Living and Moments Hospice for the care they provided to Werner.
