William Cox

William Cox, 91, of Silver Bay died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay of end stage Alzheimer Disease.

He was born on July 28, 1925 to Robert and Nondus (Smith) Cox in Chisholm. Bill grew up and attended school in Chisholm, MN before serving in the US Navy during World War II. After his discharge, Bill spent the majority of his working life at Reserve Mining Company in Silver Bay as a Foreman in various areas of the plant.

Bill enjoyed his family most of all. He was married to the love of his life Dorothy for 70 years. From his children to grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews, he loved them all and they knew it. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, coin collecting, reading, letter writing, daily walks and anything outdoors. He also volunteered as a driver for people needing dialysis and as a special helper to a disabled friend. Bill spent the last four and a half years at the Minnesota Veterans Home receiving exemplary and loving care. His family will be forever grateful. They made the loss of this, beautiful, kind, loving man, tolerable.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, John (Carmen) Cox of Haines, FL and Carolyn (Michael) Hagen Aitkin MN. He also leaves 4 grandchildren, David (Kiti) Ponte of Vedra Beach, FL, John (Stefanie) Cox of Kansas City, KS, Doug (Nicki) Hagen of Billings MT, Kara (Tom) Hofmeister of Johnstown, CO, nine great grandchildren; Michael, Nicholas, Lucas Ryan, Lindsay, Taylor, Cooper, Libby and Brady, as well as many nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Bob, Norman, Ken, Russell; a sister Gloria; as well as a grandson, Aaron.

Visitation (Wake) will be Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00PM on Sunday December 4th at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Silver Bay. The funeral service, a Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday December 5th at 11:00 AM preceded by an hour of visitation at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Memorials will be directed to the Silver Bay Veterans Home, Birchwood Neighborhood and North Shore Partners in Silver Bay.
