William Miller

February 22, 1949 — April 17, 2019

Larsmont

William (Bill) Henry Miller II (70) died unexpectedly on April 17, 2019. He was born February 22, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, to Warren Krug Miller and Mille Marie (Barthell) Miller.  He lived in the Chicago suburbs during the 1950’s and early 1960’s.  Growing up the oldest of 6 siblings coupled with his Dad dying when Bill was 15, created a responsibility path that lasted the rest of his life.  In July 1964 Mille moved her kids to Barthell’s Cabins in Larsmont. Grandma Barthell retired and the Millers took over running the Cabins.  Bill entered Two Harbors High School in Sept. 1964 and graduated in 1967.

Bill accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at a young age and never strayed from that journey.  He was active in his church, Living Waters Fellowship, since moving to Larsmont. During that time period he served on the worship team, was a Bible teacher, was a lay pastor at Barross Assisted Living Home, supported church start-ups and missionaries, was a church Elder, and volunteered at Elijah’s Pantry.

After high school Bill attended and graduated from Bethany College of Missions in Bloomington, Minn.    including 2 years as a missionary in Puerto Rico.  Then he worked at Twin Ports Bible & Book House and became Sunday School Curriculum Manager for decades.  In later years he worked in retail and contract advertising sales. After retirement he worked part time as a Public Access Camera Operator.

Bill was also active in non-church organizations. For many years he was on the Governor’s Council for Minnesota’s Coastal Program and a board member for the Duluth Women’s Care Center. For decades he was a Chair, delegate, etc., for the Lake County Republican Party.  He also managed the security control volunteers in Larsmont for Grandma’s Marathon over many years.  And he volunteered at the Neighbor to Neighbor Thrift Store and drove Two Harbors area veterans to their appointments.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother and father and his sister, Holly-Beth Miller. He is survived by his brother Tim (Lynette) Miller, children Drew Miller and Elyse (Bobby) Wertis; his sister Patti (Bill) Crone, children Kristin (Nick) Wharton, Justin (Kristen) DeArruda, and Katy DeArruda (Mike Martinez); his brother Geoffrey (Sharon) Miller, children Jeremy (Cassie) Miller, Kelsey Miller and step-children Chad (Jen) Emery and Nina Emery;  his brother Warren (Susie) Miller, children Jesse (Kelsey) Miller and Kiera (Billy) Wilson.  Bill is also survived by 6 great-nieces and 6 great-nephews. Bill never married but at times he was able to be a ‘dad’ to some of his many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Memorial Service on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Living Waters Fellowship.
