Two Harbors

Carol Peterson, 77, of Two Harbors, died Thursday, September 30, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born on January 13, 1944 to Gunnar and Helga (Lehtonen) Johnson in Two Harbors where she grew up and attended schools, graduating in 1962.  After her marriage to Wayne Peterson in 1965 she received her nurse’s training at Waubonsee Community College and Kishwaukee College in Illinois. Carol worked as an OB/GYN delivery nurse at Olmstead Community Hospital in Rochester and later St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, for over 20 years, until a back injury forced her retirement.

After Wayne’s death in 2005, Carol moved to Moorhead to live with her son and together they returned to Two Harbors in 2012.

Carol enjoyed feeding the birds, her house plants, crosswords, and word searches.  She was an avid Twins fan and had a tender heart for stories of random acts of kindness.

Carol is survived by son, Jeff Peterson; daughter, Jenny Vanyo; granddaughters, Jazlyn Peterson-Vanyo and Lynzee Vanyo; a great-grandson, A’zariah; a sister, Judy Olson; brothers, Larry “Gunnar” (Vicki) Johnson and Scott (Francine) Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 1 PM to 3 PM on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Cavallin Funeral Home, followed by burial in Lakeview Cemetery.
