Obituary

Evelyn Frisell, age 100, passed away July 4, 2022, at Boundary Waters Care Center in Ely, MN. Ev was born January 14, 1922, to Halvor and Julia (Johnson) Berg in Cyrus, MN, where she grew up and attended school. After high school she attended and graduated from Paul’s Hairdressing Academy in Minneapolis, and for a few years owned her own beauty salon in Cyrus. She married Ed Frisell Nov. 7, 1942, in Columbia, MO. They lived in San Diego, CA., Cyrus, Battle Lake and Alexandria, MN, before moving to Two Harbors in 1952 during the construction phase of Reserve Mining and decided to remain on the North Shore. Ed later opened B&E Motors and Ev worked at Ray’s Shoe Store for more than 21 years.

Ev was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and was active in the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries during the 1950’s and 60’s. She was an avid sports enthusiast and a loyal fan of the Vikings and the Twins. Ev had many interests but especially enjoyed flower gardening, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, baking treats, and she loved writing and receiving letters.

Ev was preceded in death by Ed, her husband of 56 years; infant daughter Patricia Carol; brothers Sigvald, Harold and Allan; sisters Gena Boe, Borgny Pinney, Marion Erickson, Olive Fenney and Ruth Bourne; and son-in-law Paul Bergman.

She is survived by her son Jim (Linda) Frisell, Ely, MN; daughter Janice, Seminole, FL; five grandchildren Annette (Tim) Riley, Ely, MN; Todd Frisell, County Kilkenny, Ireland; Jim (Cassie) Hassel, Columbus, OH; Vince (Tina) Hassel, West Des Moines, IA; Karen (Chris) Bowling, Moline, IL; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
