Gary J. Gustafson, 68, Silver Bay, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 23, 2021 at
home.

Gary was born to D. D. and Marian (Sundberg) Gustafson on September 13, 1952
in Two Harbors, and was a lifelong resident of Silver Bay. After graduating from
high school in Aurora, Gary served in the Army National Guard #109th in Duluth.

He was employed by LTV Steel on their railroad for over 30 years.
Gary enjoyed hockey, fishing, hunting and trapping, playing cards with his
buddies, and was a loyal supporter of his grandchildren’s sporting events. He spent
over 40 years coaching, including his son, and his grandchildren, and was twice
honored as Minnesota Assistant Hockey Coach of the Year in 1992-93 and 1998-99.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Daniel.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen; son, Jay (Andrea) Gustafson;
daughter, Kristi (Tyler) Thompson; grandchildren, Derek, Danika, Dain, Skylar
and Andrew; sisters, Terri (Marvin) Benedict and Cathy Hanson; a brother, Joe
Gustafson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Re-Union Hall in Silver Bay.
