Gary C. Radloff

July 17, 1941 ~ August 3, 2021 (age 80)


Gary C. Radloff, 80, of Grand Marais died after a brief hospital stay on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Essentia Health in Fargo.

He was born on July 17, 1941 to Lawrence and Ina (Ihlenfeldt) Radloff in Farmersburg, IA where he grew up and attended school. When Gary was 10 years old, his family moved to Onamia, MN where they ran Shorty’s Resort on Lake Mille Lacs. Gary graduated from Onamia High School in 1958.

Gary met the love of his life, Janet Pierson in 1960 while cruising around Isle, MN looking for hot babes! He stopped looking however, after he saw Janet for the first time! Gary and Janet got married on June 18th, 1966, in Onamia, MN. After a few moves, Gary and Janet settled in Ham Lake, MN for thirty years where they raised two wonderful children, Becky and Gary Jr. Gary wore many hats during his career. He started off as a Blaine Police Officer and then went on to continue his public service career as a paramedic for Mercy Unity Hospital for close to 30 years. His heart was in helping others and he spent his career doing just that.

Gary and Janet moved to Grand Marais in 2009 where Gary was employed by the Cook County Sheriff’s Department until his retirement in 2018. While working for Cook County he received the Medal of Valor for his exemplary service.

Gary had a lifelong love of fishing and traveling Lake Superior. He and Janet spent many summers on the Big Lake and made countless friends along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Lawrence and Ina Radloff, brother D’Wayne Radloff and sister Bonnie Day.

Gary is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet; daughter Becky (Brent) Aase; son Gary (Stephanie) Radloff; grandchildren, Tiffany and Alex Fystrom and Jack and Bristol Radloff.
