Two Harbors

Hugh Bishop, 79, of Two Harbors passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2019 surrounded by his family at Bayshore Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Hugh was born to Harold and Lois (Munholland) Bishop in Brainerd, MN on August 2, 1940 and grew up on a small farm near Backus, MN.  After serving one term in the U.S. Marine Corps, he attended Bemidji State University where he earned a degree in English.

While working for various newspapers around the state, Hugh finally settled in Two Harbors in 1984, where he was employed as the editor of the Lake County News Chronicle. Later, Hugh moved from newspapers to magazines, and then from magazines to books, with four books to his credit before retiring from Lake Superior Magazine.

He is survived by his three children, Paul (Hannah) of Side Lake MN, Mary of Duluth and Hugh II (Jamie) of Duluth; his former wife Elizabeth of Two Harbors; five grandchildren, Hugh III, Anna, Josephine, Rosa and Bruno; his sisters, Avis (Robert) Doherty of Sacramento, Ca,  Mary (Ted) Anderson of Brainerd, Mn., Agnes (Robert) Faundeen of St. Cloud Mn., and brother John of  Sebeka, Mn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Patty (Jones) Bishop.

His family will be hosting a memorial reception at the American Legion in Two Harbors on Saturday, October 26th, from 2-4 PM.

Hugh’s family would like to thank his caregivers at Bayshore Health and Rehabilitation Center of Duluth and St Luke’s Hospital of Duluth for their wonderful care.
