Marie Frey

November 29, 1926 — November 17, 2020

Silver Bay

With a sad heart, the children of the Frey family announce the passing of their mother, Marie Frey, who was 93 years old. She lived a rich and robust life in Silver Bay, MN and lived her final years in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. The family will be ever grateful to the nurses and staff at Good Shepherd nursing home for the friendly, competent, and professional care that was given to Marie. She died at the Saint Cloud Hospital on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 from the COVID-19 virus.

Marie was born November 29, 1926 to Frank Lindstrom and Anna (Jensen) Lindstrom, and grew up in Brooklyn, New York.  She met and married the love of her life, Walter Frey, in 1943 during World War II while he was serving in the United States Navy.  After Walter's tour ended, they moved to Zap, North Dakota. They made several other moves, and finally settled in the new and growing community of Silver Bay in 1954.

Marie supplemented the family income by doing cleaning work for Galbreaths, Zups and residential homes.  She waitressed at Red Wood Lodge and clerked at the Rustic Inn.

What seemed to give Marie the greatest purpose in life was her extensive VOLUNTEER work.

Her focus on family, church and community guided her work as she sought ways to be helpful and improve the quality of life in Silver Bay. She worked in local politics, which included being on the Silver Bay city council for many years.   Marie was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church where she was active in the lady’s guild, church boards, teaching Sunday school, and prayer groups.

She was well-known for her volunteer work at the Silver Bay Veterans home, the Lake County Day Activity Center, and organizing events and fundraisers for many organizations, like the Camp Miller candy sales.

Marie filled her life with activities she truly believed in.  When Marie’s health began to fail and she had to leave Silver Bay to be cared for by family, her tears flowed often because she missed her home, her church, her friends, and her wonderful Silver Bay.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents, her brothers, Frank Lindstrom and Walter Lindstrom and her sister Elsie Becker.

Marie is survived by her daughter Geraldine (husband, John) LeNoie, of Saint Cloud, Minnesota; a son Rickey (wife, Shana) Frey of San Diego, California; her grandchildren, Jennifer (husband, Richard) Taranow of Fort Collins, Colorado, and John LeNoie Jr. (wife, Valintia) of St. Cloud, Minnesota.  She is also survived by her two beautiful great grandchildren, Maya Ball and Sasha Ball, of Fort Collins, Colorado.

Marie has asked that memorials be given to Sychar Lutheran Church, the Silver Bay Library, or the Lake County Day Activity Center. Cards/memorials may be mailed to Geraldine LeNoie, 421 41st Avenue South, Saint Cloud, MN  56301

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a celebration of Marie's life will take place at a later date. Burial will be at Silver Bay Cemetery.
