Phyllis Sandmann, 87, of Silver Bay, died Friday, November 11, 2022 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home.

She was born June 28, 1935 to John and Ruth (Scheid) Hughes in Princeton, Wisconsin and grew up and graduated from high school in Amery, Wisconsin. She married Galen Sandmann in 1954 and they moved to Silver Bay in 1955 where they raised their family and Phyllis was a homemaker through the years.

Phyllis was a member of United Protestant Church in Silver Bay and was active in the choir and women’s guild.  In earlier years she was also active in the 4-H program. She enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, softball, gardening and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Galen in 2003; and siblings, Mary, Lillian, Alice, John Jr., Helen and Erna; and beloved dog, Winnie.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Jerry (Marlene) Sandmann of Elk River, Kathy (Terry) Thompson of Finland, Gene (Shelly) Sandmann of Tomahawk, WI, Brian (Dawna) Sandmann of Silver Bay, and Mary Lou (Vince) Sando of Marble Lake; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Chuck and Dave Hughes and June Stephens.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association 525 S Lake Ave, Duluth, MN  55802.

Services will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
