Sanford "Sande" Anderson, 74, of Two Harbors, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, July 31, 2020, at the home he shared with his significant other, Audrey Mismash, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born on August 27, 1945, to Henry Anderson and Jeanette (Dieryck) Anderson in Duluth and grew up in Lakewood Township. He graduated from Duluth Central High School, and went on to barbering school. He also played semi-pro hockey for the Duluth Hornets. He married Wendy (Snyder) in 1967 and moved to Silver Bay where he began barbering, then worked at Zup's grocery store for over 15 years. He entered self-employment and ran many of his own inventions, such as Bertha, the firewood processor, a sawmill, among others. Whether you wanted your ears lowered, a moose drug out of a swamp, or to shoot the bull, he was your go-to guy. He always put his family first, and would have done anything for his siblings. He will always be remembered by his love of fishing, barley-pop, playing cribbage, a good hot sauna, and Johnny Horton playing on the 8-track. Oh, did I mention his stubborness?
He was preceded in death by Reginald Anderson, who died in childhood and parents, Jeanette and Henry Anderson.
He is survived by his significant other Audrey Mismash of Two Harbors; sister Janice (Bill) Hilliard of Duluth; nieces Cathy and Karen; Jackie Paaso of Duluth, niece Jody and nephew John; Rene (Donna) Anderson of Alexandria, Minnesota, nieces Lynn and Kristine, nephew Kurt; and his children, Tracy Anderson of Radisson, Wisconsin, and son Jeffrey (Katie) Anderson, and beloved grandson Hunter.
Funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Silver Bay, Minnesota on Friday, August 14, at 11 am, with burial at Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery following.
