Thomas "The Bear" Pearson

July 11, 1938 — October 20, 2021

Isabella

Thomas R. Pearson (The Bear), 83, of Isabella passed away Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021 at his home. He was born July 11, 1938, in Minneapolis, to Ellis and Vivian (Thomas) Pearson. He was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School, class of 1956, attended UMD and was in the Air National Guard.

He married his beautiful bride Elizabeth Ann Mosack in 1962 in Duluth. They lived in Illinois and Minneapolis before moving their family to “God’s Country” in 1983, where they owned and operated the Stony River Bait Shop and Café for the past 38 years.

Tom was a great conversationalist, storyteller and educator. He always lent a helping hand when someone was in need. He met many, many dear friends through the café and many people loved to stop in and see Tom and Liz over the years. What started out as a stop for something to eat, directions or needing help turned into lifelong friendships. Some were like family to Tom.  He was always happy when “The Boys” were coming up.

Tom loved competition. Some of his favorite activities were golfing, hunting, fishing, watching sports, playing cribbage, “discussing” politics, listening to music, writing poems, and drawing.  He had a passion for golf and he especially loved being at Deer Camp with his hunting partner, Jr, and family and friends.

Tom deeply loved and supported his family. He took great pride in being the overseer of his family, passing down his life stories, teaching the ways of the wilderness and sports, and sharing words of wisdom. He filled his family's and friend’s hearts with love and their minds with knowledge. Those who knew Tom (The Bear), knew he was a wise man with a kind heart. He will be missed dearly.

Tom is survived by his wife Elizabeth Pearson; sister Vivian (Gary) Rolek; three daughters Beth (John) Aberle, Pam (Art) Ernest, Jill (Jason) Homer; grandchildren Matthew (Sam) Aberle, Erika Ernest, Caroline and Tommy Homer; great grandchildren Ava & Aliveah Aberle and Lexi Keller.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on November 13th at 1:00 p.m. at Blackwood’s Grill & Bar, 2525 London Road, Duluth, MN.
